The Cross-National Equivalent File (CNEF) promotes and facilitates researchers’ access to and use of harmonized data from the world’s leading household-based panel surveys. We provide data or links to access data of nine countries. We are working to add data from another three countries. Five more countries are preparing data that we expect to make available in the near future.
Most countries make their CNEF data available through the ‘CNEF-Investigator’ platform. CNEF-Investigator is a secure state-of-the-art platform that hosts the CNEF data. CNEF-Investigator uses stringent safety protocols (see below). It presents a user-friendly set of screens with a well-tested and easily accessible format through which authorized users browse and/or access the data. CNEF-Investigator lets new and experienced users learn about and find relevant data from any or all of CNEF’s partner countries. To learn more about how to navigate with CNEF-Investigator, click on the link below.
As with all data projects, we constantly struggle to secure funding. We welcome and encourage donations. If you would like to help click the link below. Donate to the CNEF Project Fund. (Thank you!)
The CNEF Investigator platform is accessed via Ohio State’s Center for Human Resources Research (CHRR) platform, which maintains an enterprise security system across all platforms compliant with NIST 800-53 (Rev 4). Based on a risk management framework, the CHRR’s security program addresses security control selections based on a FIPS 199 worst-case impact analysis design. Due to the nature of the data being hosted in addition to how it is transmitted, further safety protocol details regarding FIPS, NIST, and HIPAA may be found in a full document linked linked below.
